Man gets 10 days for upskirt offence

SINGAPORE - A man who took an upskirt video of a student at an MRT station was sentenced to 10 days jail on Friday.

Anson Koh An Sheng, 27, admitted to insulting the modesty of the 20-year-old woman at Hougang MRT station on Oct 4, 2011.

Two other charges of taking videos of women at shopping malls were considered during his sentencing.

At the time of the offences, he was an undergraduate. He has since graduated, married and was set to start work next week, said his lawyer.

The court heard that Koh and the victim alighted from the train at Hougang MRT station that afternoon.

When she was on an escalator, he stood behind her and used his cellphone to record the upskirt video of her .

But she felt something brush against her legs and confronted Koh, who denied taking any photos of her and refused to let her look at his mobile phone.

She made a police report two days later.

Koh's lawyer Adrian Wee said a psychiatric report showed that his client was then suffering from major depressive disorder which could have been linked to the offences.

He said his client has received counselling and treatment and made a full confession when he was arrested in October that year.

Koh was allowed to defer his sentence until Tuesday.

The maximum penalty for insulting a woman's modesty is one year's jail and a fine.
