An Indian national protested his innocence when he was brought to court to face a capital charge yesterday.

Thiruppathi Veerapperumal, 26, is alleged to have murdered technician Murugaiya Suresh Kumar at Pandan Loop last Saturday.

The victim, a 26-year-old Indian national, was employed by Poly NDT, which tests and inspects parts such as hulls.

He was found lying motionless on the ground with injuries to his head and neck. Blood stains were reportedly splattered along the road, and also on the nearby fencing.

Veerapperumal said through an interpreter that he did not commit the offence.

The prosecution successfully applied for Veerapperumal to be remanded at the Central Police Division lock-up for further investigation.

If convicted of murder, he faces the death penalty.

The case will be mentioned next Wednesday.
