Man charged with robbing 72-year-old man with a knife at Bedok carpark

SINGAPORE - A man was charged in court on Friday with robbing a 72-year-old man at a carpark while armed with a knife.

Jureimie Ahmad, 25, is accused of robbing Mr Cheong Yin Fong of his wallet, cash of about $200, two ATM cards and other items near Block 622 Bedok Reservoir Road at 4.35am on Tuesday.

The charge also says he put Mr Cheong in fear of bodily hurt while armed with the 5cm-long blade knife.

The prosecution sought an adjournment for investigations to be completed.

Bail of $20,000 was granted.

The maximum penalty for armed robbery after 7pm and before 7am is 14 years plus at least 12 strokes of the cane.

The case will be mentioned on May 8.
