A 35-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for committing a series of armed robberies in Jurong West.
The police were alerted to four similar cases, between last Thursday and last Saturday of a man taking mobile phones and other valuables from victims at knife point, said a statement. Officers from the Jurong Police Division conducted investigative probes to establish the suspect's identity, and arrested him at Boon Lay Place.
The offence of armed robbery carries a penalty of up to 10 years in jail and up to 12 strokes of the cane. Commander of Jurong Police Divison, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim urges members of the public to be wary of suspicious persons loitering near them. In such situations, members of the public should remain composed, note suspects' descriptions, and alert the police when it is safe to do so, he said.
