Man arrested at Sembawang MRT station for allegedly molesting woman on train

SINGAPORE - A 24-year-old man suspected of molesting a woman on a MRT train was arrested after being detained by another commuter.

On Thursday, Aug 14, at about 11.00pm, police got a call that that a female victim had been molested while travelling towards Sembawang MRT station. The suspect had allegedly molested the victim while he was standing behind her. The victim shouted for assistance and another commuter called the police. The commuter also helped to detain the suspect at Sembawang MRT station until police arrested him.

The suspect is expected to be charged on Saturday.

The police advised members of the public to stay calm when they encounter such incidents on public transport. Victims should raise the alarm by shouting for help immediately to attract attention or seek help from fellow passengers. Victims should also take note of the culprit's physical description and call the police as soon as possible.
