Man arrested for outrage of modesty on bus

SINGAPORE - A 28-year-old man was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of molesting a woman on a public bus.

The 23-year-old had been travelling towards Yishun interchange when the alleged incident happened in the morning. She informed the bus captain who helped to detain the suspect until police arrived to arrest him at Yishun bus interchange.

The maximum penalty for outrage of modesty is a jail term of up to two years and caning.

Police advise the public to stay calm when they encounter such crimes while travelling on public transport. They should call 999 and inform the bus or train captain, or seek help from other commuters to report the matter.
