A 21-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a residential unit at Hougang Ave 1.

On April 4, the victim, a 34-year-old woman, left her home for work at about 12pm. When she returned at about 10.30pm, her mobile tablet - valued at about $2,000 - was missing and she lodged a police report.

After investigating, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division determined that there was no forced entry and concluded that the suspect might have scaled the walls of the unit to gain access through unsecured windows.

The suspect was eventually identified and arrested at about 2.30pm on Thursday at Hougang Ave 1.

If convicted of housebreaking and theft. he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail.

Police advised residents to be secure their windows and doors before leaving home.
