Judge of Appeal V. K. Rajah, 57, will take over as Attorney-General from Mr Steven Chong in June this year.

Mr Chong, a former High Court judge, will return to the Supreme Court on June 25 upon completion of his two-year term as Singapore's seventh Attorney-General.

The new appointments were announced by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in a statement on Monday. As public prosecutor, Mr Chong, 56, was instrumental in making a number of changes to the criminal justice system and introduced several initiatives to enhance the administration of criminal justice here, said the PMO statement. He also took steps to engage the public in explaining the work and significant decisions of the office by establishing the Media Relation Unit and launching an outreach programme, among other things.

Under his leadership, the Attorney General's Chambers also played "an instrumental role" in the successful conclusion of international treaties such as the European Union-Singapore Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.
