SINGAPORE - A former school principal was hauled to court by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) on Thursday, to face charges of giving false information over an alleged affair.

Steven Koh Yong Chiah, 59, was charged with one count of knowingly giving false information to public servants, and one of giving false information to a CPIB investigator during a graft probe.

The court heard that while he was principal of Jurong Junior College (JJC), Koh had on Nov 24, 2005, allegedly lied to an Education Ministry cluster superintendent who was probing an anonymous complaint accusing Koh of having an affair with Madam Loke Wai Lin, who provided travel services to the school.

He was also charged with lying in a statement to a CPIB officer in December 2012, when he told the officer that his "first sexual contact" with Madam Loke took place "in 2006.. in my Hyundai Trajet car likely in the vicinity of Tamah Merah ferry terminal".

Koh, who was the principal of River Valley High School at the time of the second offence, denied both the charges.

The father of two, was released on bail with his passport impounded. The case against him has been fixed for a pre-trial conference on Aug 26.

Koh was JJC principal from 2003 until 2009, before becoming principal of River Valley High School.
