Eighteen arrested in joint Home Team blitz, most for drug offences

Eighteen suspects were nabbed during an islandwide 18-hour joint enforcement operation on Tuesday, May 6.

Sixteen of them were arrested for drug-related offences while two persons were arrested for gambling offences. One entertainment outlet was found to be in breach of its license and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) detected two fire safety violations during the blitz.

An electronic jackpot machine and $250 in cash were also seized during the raids, which spanned public housing estates and public entertainment outlets at Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Hougang, Punggol and Sengkang.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division, the Central Narcotics Bureau, and the SCDF took part in the raids. Investigations into the various offences are ongoing.

A person found guilty of managing a common gaming house, can be fined between $5,000 and $50,000 and jailed for up to three years.
