The police arrested on Friday night a couple suspected of being involved in more than 20 thefts from vehicles.

The thefts, which involved smashed front windscreens and stolen cashcards, took place between April 9 and 11 at Jalan Sultan, Jalan Bukit Merah, Telok Blangah, Kim Tian Place and Rochor housing estates.

Stolen cashcards had values ranging from $9 to about $100, police said in a statement on Saturday morning.

They were nabbed at about 9pm on Friday in the vicinity of Spooner Road, and a total of $190 cash and a motorised bicycle were seized from them.

If convicted, the man, 37, and woman, 48, can be fined, jailed for up to three years, or both.

The police said they were able to establish the identity of the thieves based on closed-circuit television camera footage and extensive ground enquiries.

In a statement on Saturday, the police advised the public to secure vehicles and ensure that car alarms are working. They should not leave valuables, such as cashcards, laptops, handphones, briefcases or wallets in the vehicle.

They should also note down the serial number of cashcards.

If they see anyone suspicious loitering in carparks, they should call the police. They should note their appearance,such as what they are wearing, their height, likely age and any distinctive physical features.
