Checkpoint breach case accused remanded

The 33-year-old Malaysian man accused of trying to enter Singapore without a valid pass last month has been remanded for a week to complete investigations.

Mohd Sani Mohamad Salleh, who was produced in court on April 24, was found to be of sound mind by the Institute of Mental Health where he had been remanded for observation, a court heard on Wednesday.

The alleged offence occurred at about 10.45am on April 21.

He will return to court on May 12.

If convicted, he faces up to six months' jail and at least three strokes of the cane.

This is the fourth such case this year at Woodlands checkpoint.

The last two attempts were stopped by officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority and police officers after the arrival car zone was locked down.
