SINGAPORE - A catering executive was jailed for eight weeks on Thursday for punching and pushing another motorist at a road junction.

Fizul Asrul Efandi, 28, was convicted after a three-day trial of punching Mr Leow Ching Khuan, 28, in his mouth and pushing him in the chest at the junction of Lentor Avenue and Yishun Avenue 1 on June 30 last year.

The court heard that Mr Leow was driving at the left-most lane of Seletar Expressway, about a car length in front of Fizul's vehicle which was on the second left-most lane in the early hours that day. Both had occupants in their cars.

Fizul, wanting to exit at Yishun, cut into the victim's vehicle's path. Mr Leow then high-beamed him and sounded his horn. He then drove alongside Fizul's car. Fizul showed his middle finger and Mr Leow did likewise. The victim then cut into Fizul's lane and slowed down in front of his vehicle. The victim's wife told him not to bother and he drove off.

Later, at the road junction of Lentor Avenue and Yishun Avenue 1, Fizul stopped behind Mr Leow's car at the red light junction. He alighted and approached the victim's car, kicked the side view mirror. He then opened Mr Leow's car and punched him in the mouth.

When the victim got out of his vehicle, Fizul pushed him in the chest. Both sides exchanged words before driving off. Fizul, who conducted his own defence, could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000 for voluntarily causing hurt.
