Car hits restaurant and taxi along Club Street, none injured

SINGAPORE- Patrons at an Italian restaurant at Club Street received a rude shock when a car reversed into its bar room on Sunday afternoon.

The silver Toyota car was believed to have reversed from the opposite side of the road before hitting the back of a taxi and the bar room of Senso Ristorante and Bar.

The blue Comfort Delgro taxi had been parked in front of the unit next to the restaurant.

Mr Olivier Dyens, chief executive officer of Senso Holdings which owns the restaurant, said the car damaged the restaurant's furniture and the glass windows of the bar room. About 100 patrons were in the restaurant when the accident took place at around 2.50pm on Sunday.

Mr Dyens, 43, estimated the restaurant's losses to be at least $17,000, including the cost of the damaged furniture and repairs.

While the restaurant will continue as usual, the bar room will take about a week to repair, said Mr Dyens.

Both the Police and Singapore Civil Defence Force said no one was hurt in the accident.

"My restaurant workers called me after the accident took place," said Mr Dyens. "It's really shocking as someone could have been killed or badly hurt."
