SINGAPORE - The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has arrested 98 people in a series of drug busts across the island this week, including some as young as 19.

Between Monday and Friday, it swooped on locations including Bedok, Boon Lay, Bukit Panjang, Clementi, Commonwealth, Hougang, Telok Blangah and Woodlands.

Nine suspected drug traffickers and 89 suspected drug abusers were nabbed. A total of about 72g of heroin, 19g of "Ice", 56g of cannabis and five Ecstasy tablets were also seized.

Among those apprehended were a group of seven Singaporeans aged between 19 and 26, who were believed to be involved in abusing cannabis.

Two of them are also being investigated for drug trafficking.

Investigations into all seven suspects are ongoing.

Cannabis is a Class A controlled drug listed in the Misuse of Drugs Act. Consumption, possession or trafficking of cannabis is an offence. The CNB said in a statement on Friday that it has a "zero tolerance stance in enforcing these offences".
