SINGAPORE - Traffic Police arrested 17 motorists for drink driving in an islandwide operation early on Friday.
A total of 61 drivers were stopped and tested for alcohol consumption at various road blocks. Of the lot, 17, all men aged between 21 and 55, failed the breath analyser test.
The highest test result was 67 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, which is almost double the maximum legal limit, Police said on Saturday.
If convicted, those arrested will be disqualified from driving for at least a year and lose their driving licences. In addition, first-time offenders can be fined up to $5,000. Repeat offenders face a fine of up to $30,000 and a mandatory jail term of up to three years.
