Tokyo stocks open up 0.23% on Monday

TOKYO (AFP) - Tokyo stocks opened 0.23 per cent higher on Monday, turning up after five days of losses following modest gains on Wall Street.
The Nikkei 225 index was up 35.14 points at 15,199.18 in the first few minutes of trade.
US stocks ended slightly up on Friday following a handful of mixed earnings reports ahead of a deluge of economic events in the coming week.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.17 per cent to 16,943.81 and the broad-based S&P 500 gained 0.15 per cent to 1,967.57.
