SINGAPORE - Shares of major companies on the Singapore Exchange dipped in early morning trade.

The benchmark Straits Times Index was down 0.57 per cent, or 18.2 points, to 3,191.5 by 9.30am local time.

About 248 million shares worth a total of $195.1 million changed hands. There were 119 gainers to 70 losers.
