Singapore shares little changed amid quiet Asian trading on Monday

Singapore shares ended flat on Monday, amid a quiet trading day across the region, with several bourses closed for a holiday.

The local benchmark Straits Times Index closed just 2.03 points, or 0.06 per cent higher, at 3,255.83.

"We are awaiting many events such as the Obama-Abe meeting, Chinese data and earnings this week," said Mr Hideyuki Ookoshi, the Tokyo-based general manager at Chibagin Securities, in an interview with Bloomberg.

"Investors are thinking the market won't move much, so they're holding off on making trades."

United States President Barack Obama meets with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe this week.

The top active stock at home was Transcu, flat at 0.2 cents on a turnover of 308.8 million shares.

Other penny stocks dominated trading, with Albedo, down 0.2 cents to 1.7 cents, and Charisma Energy, slipping 0.2 cents to 5.3 cents, rounding off the top three actives.
