Singapore shares up in early trading

Singapore shares opened marginally higher, taking comfort from a firmer close overnight on Wall Street.

The Straits Times Index was up 6.03 points at 3,247.63 after an hour of trading.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 130 to 89.

Among the actives was Genting Singapore, which soared 3.5 cents to $1.345 after the casino operator reported a blow out quarter.

Bank shares were also firmer, with UOB rising 14 cents to $21.59 and OCBC Bank climbing two cents to $9.74.
