Lim Hng Kiang to meet with Asean economic ministers in Myanmar

SINGAPORE - Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang will visit Nay Pyi Taw in Myanmar for the 11th Asean Economic Community (AEC) Council Meeting on Saturday, ahead of the 24th Asean summit on Sunday.

At the meeting, Mr Lim and other Asean economic ministers will discuss and review the progress made towards establishing a single Asean market by 2015.

They will also exchange views about developments in various sectors, especially in the areas of trade in services and finance, and discuss initiatives to integrate Asean into the global economy.

In particular, the ministers will talk about the status of negotiations for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which aims to set out a wider regional free trade agreement for Asean.

Mr Lim will be accompanied by officials from the Trade and Industry Ministry.
