Four given national honours for contributions to Singapore's economic growth

SINGAPORE - Four senior business executives were honoured at a National Day awards ceremony on Friday for their contributions to Singapore's economy.

President Tony Tan Keng Yam presented the Public Service Star (Distinguished Friends of Singapore) award to Mr Dominic Barton, global managing director of management consultancy McKinsey & Company, and Mr Michael Splinter, chairman of American semiconductor giant Applied Materials.

He also gave out the Public Service Medal (Friends of Singapore) to Mr Paul Graham, DHL Supply Chain's global chief operating officer and chief executive of mainland Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Mr Gautam Banerjee, Blackstone's senior managing director and co-chairman of its Asia Operating Committee, was conferred the Public Service Medal as well.

Mr Banerjee, who is also chairman of Blackstone Singapore, was not present at the ceremony held at the Istana.

EDB chairmain Beh Swan Gin said in a statement that all four award recipients have played "instrumental roles" in the continued growth of Singapore's business landscape.

"Their strong support has lef to the development of new capabilities in their respective sectors, and created exciting job opportunities for Singaporeans."
