Maybank Kim Eng hires new CEO to build investment banking arm

SINGAPORE - Malaysian bank Maybank Kim Eng Securities has named a new chief executive to help it ramp up its investment banking business.

Mr Harmeet Singh Bedi, who was previously at Swiss bank UBS, took the helm at Maybank Kim Eng on Tuesday, July 15.

The bank said in a statement earlier this week that Mr Bedi would "lead in the overall development of Maybank Kim Eng's investment banking business in Singapore".

Maybank Kim Eng Group chief John Chong said that the appointment was "an affirmation of our commitment to further deepen our investment banking presence in the region".

Mr Bedi has more than 20 years of Asian banking experience, including 14 years in Singapore, across corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, investment banking client and regional sector coverage as well as corporate banking, it added.

At UBS, he was managing director and head of corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions for Southeast Asia.

Prior to that, he headed the Southeast Asia corporate finance teams at Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank.

He has also held senior corporate finance and sector coverage roles at JP Morgan in Singapore and Hong Kong, Maybank Kim Eng said.
