SINGAPORE - Cab drivers in Singapore who use GrabTaxi, a taxi booking smartphone app that connects passengers to nearby taxi drivers, can now pay GrabTaxi fees via their M1 bills.

The local telco has tied up with GrabTaxi to save taxi drivers a trip to GrabTaxi's offices, it said on Wednesday.

GrabTaxi, the second-largest taxi network in Singapore, charges taxi drivers a small fee for bookings made through its app.

"Time is money, and we are pleased to work with GrabTaxi to allow Singapore's hardworking and tech-savvy taxi drivers to top up their GrabTaxi credits more conveniently," said M1's chief marketing officer P. Subramaniam.

GrabTaxi's general manager, Mr Lim Kell Jay, added: "Our focus has always been to ensure our users have the best possible experience when using GrabTaxi." This extends to making the system "as simple as possible" for both passengers and taxi drivers, he said.

Taxi drivers who top up their GrabTaxi credits using M1's service will receive 20 per cent bonus credits for each $10, $30 or $50 top-up.

To commemorate the M1-GrabTaxi partnership, the first 10,000 M1 customers who book a ride with the GrabTaxi app between today and May 31 will enjoy a $3 discount.
