PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - The family of MH17 chief stewardess Dora Shahila Kassim are determined to make her dream come true - and that means moving on.

Recalling his sister's dream, elder brother Don Shahidan Kassim, 48, said it was to make sure that her only child Nur Diyana Yazeera, 15, was successful in life.

"Nur Diyana is like a daughter to me and her education was very important to Dora Shahila. Our family will do our best to support Nur Diyana, be it emotionally or academically, so that she can make her mother proud," he said before conducting prayers for Dora Shahila, 47, at the Bukit Kiara cemetery on Saturday.

He said the family members were aware that they need to move forward but admitted it was very tough, especially for Nur Diyana, his mother Hasnah Mohd Yusof, 71, and his 22-year-old son.

The three have been undergoing counselling at the Selayang Hospital.

To cope with the loss, the family shares stories about Dora Shahila.

"We sit around and laugh about the good times, the holidays and the jokes because by talking about her, it feels like she is still with us. These memories will always be with us," he said.

"We pray a lot and that has helped us cope. We pray for the other families of MH17 and MH370 so that they too may have closure."

He said the national day of mourning provided the family with closure because they could finally lay Dora Shahila to rest.

The solidarity shown by Malaysians from all walks of life as they gathered to mourn the victims was very touching, he said.

"The care and love they showed meant so much to us - we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts," he said.
