Malaysia police to wait for all test results in murdered model case before further action

JOHOR BARU (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Police will have to wait for the results of all the laboratory tests carried out on the body of Estonian model Regina Soosalu before deciding on further action.

Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm (SAC) Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the police were also in the midst of questioning the seven people detained in the case, including Soosalu's boyfriend Tengku Alang Reza Ibrahim.

"We will have to wait for all the lab test results and then decide on further action. We are also investigating if they (the suspects) are tested positive for drugs," he said.

However, SAC Hasnan declined to comment on talk that the police had requested for a second post-mortem to be carried out on Soosalu.

Her body, he added, would only be released to her family in Estonia once the investigations were completed.

A close friend of Soosalu said she suspected that the model was heavily involved in drugs months before her sudden death as she appeared to have lost weight.

"I believe that she often got intoxicated and took party drugs for fun. This could have turned into an addiction," she said.

It was reported that Soosalu and Tengku Alang Reza, who has links to a member of the royal family, had been charged in a magistrate's court with having 5.84gm of cannabis on Jan 11.

They pleaded not guilty on May 12 and were released on bail of RM7,000 (S$2,726) in total.

The case, which is ongoing, was last mentioned on May 25.

The friend, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said this could be one reason why Soosalu spent a lot of time on Pulau Rawa.

"I was worried for her but she was there with her boyfriend, so I thought that she should be okay," she said, adding that she found Soosalu's sudden death hard to swallow.

The police had initially thought that she drowned but the investigations were later changed to Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
