KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Malaysia's transport minister Liow Tiong Lai has said a preliminary investigation report for Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 should be ready by next week.

"All preliminary data should be ready by next week and hopefully we can reveal the preliminary study," Mr Liow told a press conference here on Thursday.

He said that a preliminary investigation meeting between Malaysia's Civil Aviation department and Dutch investigators was held.

"Now we are still collecting more data and wreckage at the crash site but what is important is the data from the black box, so that we can determine how the incident happened," he added.

Malaysia Airlines MH17 en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam was downed over eastern Ukraine on July 17, killing all 298 on board. Only 62 bodies were found in good condition by investigators at the crash site so far by the team who is finding the search operation difficult to conduct due to fighting between Ukraine forces and separatist rebels in the region.
