SEPANG (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Malaysia's Acting Transport Minister said he wants a report by Wednesday on Monday's incident in which a Malaysia Airlines flight bound for Bangalore was forced to turn back due to a landing gear malfunction.

Mr Hishammuddin Hussein said although he was impressed with the way the emergency landing at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) was handled by the crew of MH192, the incident should not have happened.

"These sort of incidents should not happen. I have directed that although MAS is under Khazanah (Nasional Bhd), the ministry should be given the report as soon as possible," he told reporters at KLIA.

"I give them two days. On Wednesday, I want to see an early report as this is not something like MH370 that is missing in the Indian Ocean, it is related to the condition of the tyres (landing gear)," he said.

"I do not think there is a reason we cannot be informed in one or two days," he added.

Mr Hishammuddin added that the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and MAS have been told to be on standby while the notes of the report should be handed to the ministry as soon as possible.

When asked about the possibility of sabotage due to the recent spate of incidents involving MAS, Mr Hishammuddin said he had already asked the police to investigate, and urged people not to speculate on the matter.

"I have already directed the police to get going immediately. Our SOP, as with MH370, has not changed but any leads that we have must be verified and corroborated," he said.

Mr Hishammuddin also lauded the crew for the manner in which it handled of the situation.

"We are thankful that none of the passengers are hurt. I was very touched earlier when I was able to meet the passengers, as most of them were very impressed with the captain and crew," he added.

MAS flight MH192, bound for Bangalore, was forced to make turn back and landed safely in KLIA.

The airline tweeted earlier that the Boeing 737-800 aircraft landed safely at 1.56am on Monday.

MH192 departed from KLIA at 10.09pm Sunday and was scheduled to arrive in Bengaluru at 11.35pm the same day.

The flight was carrying 166 people, including 159 passengers and seven crew members.
