Fish farm worker manages to escape armed kidnappers in Sabah

LAHAD DATU (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - One of the two men kidnapped on Monday from a fish farm on the east coast of Sabah has managed to escape.

Unidentified gunmen, said to be Filipino, had snatched the two men at about 12.45am on Monday from the fish farm at Kampung Sapang in Kunak, about 60km from here.

One of the two men, identified as Maslan, is believed to have jumped off the speedboat as the kidnappers were ferrying them away.

The whereabouts of the other man, Mr Chan Sai Chiun, a fish breeder from Perak, are still unknown.

Mr Maslan is believed to made his escape as the boat was speeding off and swam ashore to lodge a police report.

Sources said that the kidnapping was carried out by two masked men, armed with riffles, who sneaked under the cover of darkness into the workers' quarters of the fish farms and grabbed the two who were sleeping in their rooms.

They said that the men were shoved into a 40HP speedboat where two more accomplices were apparently waiting.
