SHAH ALAM (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim was in a meeting with the Selangor sultan on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the brewing political crisis in the state.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) had sacked Khalid after he failed to show up at a disciplinary committee meeting over allegations directed at him.

PRK, Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) and Democratic Action Party (DAP) form the opposition Pakatan Rakyat (PR) alliance.

PAS, which initially supported Khalid as the mentri besar or chief minister, retracted its backing and instead, went along with its PR allies in proposing Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the next mentri besar.

The party also nominated Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali as the second candidate for the mentri besar post.

Sultan Sharafuddin had requested Khalid to refrain from making any statement on his position until after the ruler had returned on Aug 27 from an overseas trip.

However, the Sultan cut short his trip and returned last Saturday.
