Director of MH370 film apologises for love-triangle plot

PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - The director of a movie based on the Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 disappearance is apologising for the trailer that suggests a love-triangle plot between members of the crew.

Mr Rupesh Paul announced his upcoming movie The Vanishing Act based on the missing Malaysian Airlines plane at the Cannes Film Festival, along with a brief trailer for the film.

The trailer shows two crew members kissing as a third crew member looks on angrily. The trailer also shows someone with a gun and scenes featuring commotion and panic on the plane.

In a statement to Associated Press (AP), the director said he was removing that element of the teaser trailer soon "so as not to hurt sentiments" of the families of those on the plane.

He also offered "an unconditional apology to the families of the missing MH370 passengers" and said he never "meant to hurt any of the grieving friends and families of the passengers in the missing plane nor make profit over the missing passengers".

In an earlier interview, the film's associate director Sritama Dutta said the movie would not follow any facts of the tragedy.

Mr Paul said the plot will revolve around an investigative report by a Malaysian journalist which the teaser trailer does not reflect.

The Vanishing Act's trailer has garnered more than 300,000 views on YouTube, and the Dutta said that Mr Paul is aiming for a September release.

Authorities still have not been able to locate the plane, which was carrying 239 people when it went missing on March 8.
