KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - The body of the man believed to have brutally beheaded two-year-old Siti Soffea at the Klang River near Jalan Tun Sambanthan on Thursday has been found after a two-day search.

City Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Azizan Ismail confirmed that the body of the supect was found at 4pm on Saturday in the Klang River near the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) Sunway toll plaza.

The suspect was believed to have jumped into the river after killing the toddler, Bernama reported. The girl's body was found near a train station at Jalan Tun Sambanthan on Friday evening. Police searched the area and found ceramic tile shards, believed to have been used to slash the girl, the Malaysian news agency reported.

Siti was with her mother Siti Salmy Suib, 32, at the Kota Raya shopping complex on Thursday. Her mother left her in the care of her friends when she went to the toilet, and found her missing after she returned.

NGO Kechara Soup Kitchen's (KSK) project director Justin Cheah said his team had provided food and assistance to the mother-daughter pair.

He said the mother, an odd-job labourer, sometimes stayed under a bridge by the river near the Bulatan Syed Putra, where 15 to 30 other homeless people also seek shelter.
