All seven suspects held over death of Estonian model have been released

JOHOR BARU (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - All seven suspects detained in connection with the murder of Estonian model Regina Soosalu have been released on police bail.

Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the suspects were released with one surety each under Section 388 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The section provides for any person charged with a non-bailable offence to be released on bail if that person is under the age of 16, is a woman, is sick or infirm.

"Police have completed investigations relating to the case and we have forwarded our findings to the Public Prosecutor," said SAC Hasnan, who confirmed that Soosalu's family had taken custody of her remains on Friday.

It is learnt that the body has already been flown back to Estonia.

Soosalu was found dead while vacationing on Pulau Rawa, off Mersing, on July 1.

Police initially believed that the 23-year-old model had drowned but later investigated the case as possible murder after discovering suspicious wounds on the body.

Several suspects, including Soosalu's boyfriend Tunku Alang Reza Tunku Ibrahim, were detained to help in the investigations.

Police have yet to release the actual cause of death although a post-mortem has been conducted.
