Nepal earthquake: Aerial footage shows wake of destruction

Local Nepalese TV on Monday (April 27) showed aerial images of damage to Kathmandu and its surroundings following a magnitude 7.9 earthquake at the weekend.

Reuters could not independently confirm the exact date the video was recorded, but it is most likely Monday (April 27) or Sunday (April 26). Smoke was seen coming out of some of the buildings. Roads leading out of the mountain valley city were also jammed.

Many people said they had slept in the open since Saturday's quake, either because their homes were flattened or they were terrified that the aftershocks would bring them crashing down.
