South Korean nuclear reactor shut due to control rod problem; five now offline

SEOUL (REUTERS) - A South Korean nuclear power plant shut down a reactor on Monday due to a control rod problem, the state-run nuclear reactor operator Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co Ltd (KHNP) said.

That puts the number of South Korean reactors offline at five out of a total 23.

"We are looking into the exact cause of the shutdown," said a KHNP spokesman, adding that it was not clear when the 950-megawatt Hanul No.1 reactor would be restarted.
