Police van in Chinese city stuck mid-air after driver lost control

WEIHAI - A police van in China's eastern Shandong province got stuck in mid-air between a building and a concrete ledge after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) police van drove off the road in Weihai city as it was trying to avoid hitting other vehicles on Sunday, according to Sina Weibo, China's microblogging platform.

South China Morning Post quoted Chinese state media as saying the SWAT van ended up in its gravity-defying position three storeys above ground due to "improper operation". There were no reported injuries.

The Weihai Police Department posted a mild reprimand on their Weibo account.

"It looks like the driver still has a lot to do to improve his driving skills. Guys in the SWAT team are often young, and young people tend to make more mistakes. Why not let us just forgive him?" the department wrote.

Photographs of the suspended van were circulated online by netizens in China.

"I bet they must have been trained to drive like this. The car would have fallen off if the driver weren't a SWAT man," wrote one amused Weibo user.
