THE organisers of the Occupy movement will organise a poll among protesters this Sunday, to seek their opinions on the 2017 chief executive election.

A second question will ask for their thoughts on the effectiveness of a report to China's Cabinet, the State Council, on the Occupy movement.

The government had proposed this during talks with the student protest leaders on Tuesday as a concession, but had made clear it will have no impact on the 2017 election.

The poll was announced on Thursday night by the Federation of Students (FS) and Occupy organiser Benny Tai.

FS leader Alex Chow said that the government had often accused it of not representing the city's residents. But he said he hopes the poll will show that it is not just the FS, but all at the protest sites, who desire "substantive response" from the government.

The poll will be conducted by the University of Hong Kong, and those who wish to take part will need to bring along their Hong Kong identity cards and mobile phones to register.

They can vote between 8pm and 11pm at the main protest site in Admiralty.
