Enlisting for National Service? Every true-blue Singaporean male would know that the Army Market in Beach Road is where you must make a pit-stop first.

It is located on the second storey of the 38-year-old Golden Mile Food Centre at 505, Beach Road. Here, you can find anything from customised pouches to trekking sticks, mosquito netting, uniforms, sleeping bags, anti-leech socks, Swiss knives and even rafts.

And if you thought the army is a guy thing, think again. ST's Through The Lens zooms in on three female shopkeepers who have been hawking their wares there for decades, and are experts on local military apparel and paraphernalia.
