Lapping up the summer weather

Thousands of people turned up to participate in the annual Lake Zurich crossing swimming event in Switzerland on Wednesday.

The swimmers took on the 1,500m crossing from the Mythenquai beach to the one in Tiefenbrunnen.

Every year, the event draws thousands of participants to Lake Zurich. This year, about 8,600 people took part in the crossing.

The event is open to those aged 16 and above, and is recommended only for good swimmers.

The lake borders the cantons of Zurich, St Gallen and Schwyz.

Zurich, Switzerland's largest city, lies to the west.
