Over the weekend, hundreds of thousands took to the streets to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities in the annual Gay Pride Day. In some American cities, there was a sombre undercurrent from the reminder of the Pulse nightclub shooting that killed 49 people two weeks ago. Elsewhere in cities like Istanbul, riot police clashed with LGBT protestors after the rally was cancelled by the government due to safety reasons.
