Black Friday shopping started early for some shoppers in the United States who braved long queues and cold weather to be the first in line. It falls on Nov 27, the day after Thanksgiving, and is commonly regarded as the beginning of the Christmas season. This year, stores like Macy's and Toys 'R' Us in New York City decided to open late on Nov 26 to give customers first dibs on the best bargains. At electronic store Best Buy, people pitched tents two days ahead of Black Friday, while Amazon warehouses in Spain and the United Kingdom have been busy for most of the week, preparing for the surge in sales. But in recent years, online shopping has become more popular, saving shoppers a trip to the store and having to fight for limited sale items.
