Caught in a storm

This car was swept into the sea at Vilassar de Mar after a huge storm hit the north-eastern region of Spain on Wednesday.

The storm left one person dead.

A 60-year-old man drowned as heavy rainfall lashed the central coast of Spain's Catalonia region, according to a report in the El Pais daily.

The newspaper said the man died after his car was swept away by floodwaters which had risen in the inundated Cabrils flood channel, 25km north of Barcelona in the Maresme coastal area.

The accident came on a day of record heavy rainfall in the region.Train lines and roads were closed, and there were serious power blackouts as well.
