Angels by the Bay

Angels are descending on Marina Bay this month. But these angels are not quite the celestial variety.

They are part of an installation titled Angels Of Freedom, by OGE Group, Gaston Zahr and Merav Eitan, from Germany and Israel.

The event is being held around the Marina Bay waterfront area, from tomorrow to March 27, as part of the i Light Marina Bay festival.

Five sets of giant, colourful wings invite visitors to interact with the symbolic angels, reminding them to remain connected to their loved ones and those who matter.

One person who took up the invitation yesterday was Mrs Silke Penning, 52, a teacher from Hamburg, Germany, who is on a visit to Singapore.

The festival this year is organised by the Urban Redevelopment Authority and is designed based on the theme "In Praise of Shadows".

It invites visitors to re-imagine the fundamentals, forms and roles of light.

The fourth edition of the festival this year features 25 light art installations by local and international artists. This year, more local artists are being featured, with 14 of the artworks designed by Singapore artists.
