Food firms whip up cash for ST Fund

FOOD companies and snack chains are doing their bit to make sure underprivileged children do not turn up for class hungry.

They have been holding sales and fund-raising campaigns, then donating the proceeds to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.

The community project helps low-income families pay for school-related expenses, such as a meal for their child at recess.

Cerebos Pacific Limited, the health food and sauce maker which owns Brand's, raised more than $31,000 at a two-day sale last week.

A long-time supporter of the fund, it generated the cash by selling 22 Brand's products to the public at Nankin Mall in China Square Central.

O'Briens Irish Sandwich Cafe and Toast Box teamed up to raise $10,310.09, with the help of Unilever Food Solutions.

The snack chains set aside part of the proceeds from selected food items sold in June, and the donations were audited by Unilever's internal finance team.
