NWC to consider continuing to recommend specific quantums

THE National Wage Council (NWC) returned to giving specific amounts when making salary recommendations this year and will consider doing the same for future reports, said the Acting Minister for Manpower Tan Chuan-Jin on Thursday.
He was responding to a question by Mr Alex Yam (Chua Chu Kang GRC) on NWC recommendations. The NWC is a tripartite body where employers, trade unions and the Government are represented.
It meets every year to deliberate wage matters, and issues guidelines for salaries.
In May, the NWC recommended that the pay of workers earning below $1,000 a month be raised by at least $50 a month.
