Law to clamp down on errant employers of foreign workers amended
The Manpower Ministry will be given more enforcement powers to deal with employers who try to get around efforts to tighten Singapore's foreign labour supply, under changes to a law passed in Parliament on Tuesday.
Under the amendments to the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, some breaches will be classified as administrative infringements and no longer as criminal penalties, which will allow MOM to deal with them more quickly.
Penalties were also increased and certain infringements - now prosecuted under more general clauses - were made stand-alone offences.
MOM was also given greater powers to investigate cases.
