Health ministry reviewing policy on egg freezing
The Health Ministry is reviewing the "medical, scientific and ethical implications" of the current policy on egg freezing, said Minister of State for Health Amy Khor in Parliament.
Currently, only women who have to undergo treatments like chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which will damage their fertility are allowed to freeze their eggs.
Nominated MP Tan Su Shan asked if this criteria might loosened given that fertility declines with age.
Dr Khor said that there are inherent risks for women who undergo the egg freezing procedure and the technology is still relatively new.
