Government accepts responsibility for December MRT incidents
Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Ministry of Transport (MoT) share some blame in the two massive MRT breakdowns last December that affected more than 220,000 commuters.
Short of making an apology, Mr Lui told Parliament on Tuesday: 'SMRT's maintenance regime had shortcomings, but we too - both MoT, as the supervising Ministry, and LTA, as the regulator - have to shoulder our share of the responsibility.
'We could have done more, and could have done better... I give the House my assurance that we will spare no effort to improve.'
The Minister said the Government accepts the findings and recommendations made by the Committee of Inquiry (COI).
