United States President Donald Trump and his wife Melania met Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan for the first time on Thursday (April 6), local time.

The agenda has reportedly been left open, but the leaders sat down for a dinner with their wives and other guests at the luxurious Mar-a-Lago resort.

While Mr Trump turned out in his signature red power tie, his counterpart Mr Xi was decked out in contrasting blue.

Here is a look at what the First Ladies wore.

For her appearance at her husband's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Mrs Trump wore a square-necked sleeveless dress in a red hue traditionally considered prosperous in Chinese culture.

The midi dress by Valentino cost US$3933 (S$5,500) and is made of wool and silk-blend crepe.

The vivid colour, Valentino's signature hue, was in coordination with Mr Trump's red tie.

Daisy appliques peppered her tea-length frock, which she accompanied with her hair in typically loose fashion.

She paired this with Christian Louboutin's So Kate pumps that had a floral mosaic design.

Her hair was in a braided updo, and pearl drop earrings accentuated the look.

She paired the knee-length garment with a satin-sheened blue clutch and a velvet berry-coloured shawl, topping it off with classic dark heels.

Her gown also matched her husband's tie, which was a patterned blue.
