MONTREAL (AFP) - Academy Award-winning filmmaker James Cameron is partnering with Cirque du Soleil to bring his blockbuster film Avatar to the stage, it was announced Thursday.

The live show is scheduled to debut in late 2015, prior to the release of three upcoming Avatar film sequels currently in pre-production, and tour around the world.

"Over the years, I have discovered the extraordinary talents and imaginations of both the artists and the creative forces behind Cirque du Soleil," said James Cameron.

"I know we share the common goal of bringing audiences to another level of entertainment experiences. I look forward to doing just that on this project." Cirque and Cameron previously collaborated on the 2012 3D film Worlds Away, which incorporated acts from seven Cirque live shows that were running in Las Vegas.
